About this deal

I went for an easier install for the rear camera, keeping it inside the vehicle but it works really well there and still has great field of view. Also I didn't connect it up to the rear light cluster. Its just a 2 finger swipe on the screen to activate it. Along the bottom edge, there is a power button. You can choose to turn off the mirror and use it as a traditional mirror. Garmin also offer a battery wireless camera which can be attached to the top of a license plate, the Garmin BC40, but the BC35 comes with a good length power cable (15ft/4.5m) but a slightly random selection of other cables with the fuse flimsily mounted in the lead. No Glare, Crystal Image: V5pro rear view mirror camera utilizes the full laminated screen to ensure a crystal image without glare even under intense sunlight. The IMX307 sensor help to restrain the high beam lights to avoid the dazzling situation. A good performance for driving safety day and night. Last but not least, we have the Auto-Vox V5 Pro mirror dash cam. It’s a little more expensive compared to its peers above, but it connects directly to your car’s fuse box, thereby taking away from the hassle of hardwiring a camera. At the same time, it’s a complete replacement of your car’s rearview mirror. Consequently, you won’t have to strap the device on top of your car’s rearview mirror.

Do note that this Auto-Vox dash cam doesn’t come with an SD card and you will have to source one on your own. And while you do so, do remember to get a durable weather-resistant card. For the record, the V5 Pro supports up to 64GB microSD cards. All said and done, the Auto-Vox V5 Pro is among the best rear view mirror dash cams you can buy right now. Keep a Watchful Eye on the RoadThe Vantrue M2 works on the same principle as the WOLFBOX G840S dash cam. For one, the mirror will double up as a touchscreen when needed. Secondly, it acts as a reverse camera when you engage the reverse gear. And it doesn’t end there. The touchscreen also displays guidelines to help you reverse with ease.

Fitting a reversing camera can be a daunting task if you’re not a motor enthusiast, but there is an unsurmountable need for power (the screen and the camera) and a connection between the two. The Auto-Vox Solar 1 takes advantage of wireless to transmit the video from the camera, and a solar panel to power it. The Auto-Vox V5 Pro ships in three different parts: a front camera, a rear camera, and a GPS antenna. Let’s take a look at each of them in turn. The Vantreu M2 is yet another great rear view mirror dash cams for cars. If you must know, Vantrue is a formidable name in the dash cam scene, and the Vantrue M2 lives up to the company’s legacy as well. Like its counterpart above, it also requires its share of wiring, especially for the rear camera. But once done, you will have an excellent mirror dash cam with impressive picture quality at your disposal. The rear camera is identical to the original V5 rear camera. It’s a small cube, measuring one inch on each side. Although it can be mounted inside your vehicle, it’s designed to be mounted outside. An IP68 water and dust resistance rating makes it suitable for virtually any conditions.

The Auto-Vox V5 is already a great reversing & dash cam, but this ‘Pro’ option is designed to be fitted directly to a car’s fuse box so it really blends into the driving experience. 1080P video might not be the highest resolution available, but the Sony sensors capture good footage which is more than adequate for insurance evaluation. Assuming you supply the maximum 64GB SD card, that’ll record up to 72 hours, automatically recorded on a loop overwriting the older footage, and adding GPS geodata as it goes.

The touchscreen itself provides a variety of useful functions. To begin with, as we mentioned, you can switch between the front and rear displays. You can also adjust the brightness. Turn it up for daytime driving, and turn it down at night to keep distractions to a minimum. Finally, you can manually adjust the parking lines. They’re drag and drop, which means that adjustment simply requires a slide of your finger. As a result, you can adjust the parking lines as needed for any vehicle on the market. Final Verdict The controls across the bottom are, audio mute/unmute, rear/front/split view, record stop/start, photo capture, emergency file protect, and settings. Screen brightness is along the top. You can also tap the time to hide or show the date and time. Coming to the video quality, the M2’s 1440p resolution and HDR support ensure that you will be able to see recorded footage in all its glory. The video quality is crisp, with important details like license plate numbers superbly visible.

What’s in the box?

If your car has a screen, especially an aftermarket head unit, then your camera can be displayed on that. If you have an original (OEM) monitor, or none at all, you’ll likely need a separate monitor. Separate monitors might take the form of stand-alone items you can attach to your windshield or dash. Some of our favorites are integrated into a rear-view mirror. The camera is attached to a sliding mount, allowing you to extend the camera to the right to get past any potential visual obstacles. The video quality is excellent. The crisp 1080p footage is void of pixelations and blurry effects. However, the dash cam’s night vision works best when it is assisted by some external light.

Useful for many are Yada’s fitting assistance efforts, including videos, a toll-free helpline (in the USA), and their catalog of professional installers, so fitting shouldn’t be a chore, and the system is 12 or 24V compatible and, once fitted, is triggered automatically by reverse gear. These are the benefits of an established brand and model (the downside is newer designs have higher resolution, but this has all the important features). Since it connects directly to your car’s fuse box, you can expect continuous recording, especially when your car is parked. In fact, the folks at Nerd Techy opine that the Auto-Vox doubles up as an excellent parking camera too.

The BC35 has wide 160˚ horizontal viewing through its CMOS sensor, and sends its video signal wirelessly, though you’ll need to draw power from a source in the vehicle when you fit it. Looking at the pics of the V5 pro it doesn't look like it will be compatible but as you can see in the pic above the clip will unscrew so I'm wondering if I can bodge something up? The only problem then is the plastic trim because the front bit shown in the 1st pic with the red arrow attaches to the casting of the mirror above so that would need to be bodged too. In the 2nd pic you can see a plug still connected. That's for the rain sensor. The wire dangling down is the plug for the mirror sensor which is for auto dip main beam I believe which I could live without or maybe I could retrofit to the V5 pro? Not sure. This is very often above the license plate, with a camera designed to fit into the plate mount. The alternatives are a universal mount that can be placed anywhere (perhaps even inside the rear window) or perhaps a brand-specific design. The Pelsee P12 Pro comprises two cameras (front-facing and rear-facing), along with a GPS antenna. While the installation process is not challenging, you will need some patience to get the setup up and running.
