About this deal

Heat shields, when installed correctly, reduce the space you need from the stove to the wall by 2/3, and from the stove to the ceiling by 1/2. I just had a chat with Gill saying how delighted we are with our little Hobbit stove, and to also thank you both for your attention to detail and excellent customer service!" According to BS 8303:2018, Installation of domestic heating and cooking appliances burning solid mineral fuels, the heat shield should protrude at least 300mm above the top surface of the stove . How wide does a heat shield need to be?

Heat shields are available in a wide range of flat colours, subtle textures or with screen-printed graphics. Once fired in the furnace, the surface is colour-fast, meaning the colours and artwork will never fade. Working alongside several designers, they have created many beautiful options catering for both modern and classic tastes. From statement patterns to minimalist hues, there are plenty of options available to accent or blend with your existing colour scheme. There's nothing more welcoming than a real fire. For over 10 years, Direct Stoves has been supplying homeowners like you with range cookers, and multi-fuel and wood burning stoves.

No. Provided that you are installing your stove into a proper fireplace that features a hearth, chimney cavity and a firebox, then you don’t need to install a heat shield. If you are unable to place your stove with at least a 900mm clearance between it and other surfaces, then you’ll need to install a heat shield. Situated between the stove and the exposed surface, a heat shield will reduce the required distance for safety. Because of these high temperatures, it’s vital that your stove and its flue pipe are situated far enough away from combustible materials. Simply put, a combustible material is anything that can ignite and burn. Some of the more obvious examples of combustible materials are flammables like curtains and bedding, or things made from paper or wood like a coffee table or bookshelf, but there are some things that may not immediately jump to mind that are just as dangerous. For example, settees and other furniture made from fabric (especially cotton) and even plasterboard and wooden beams inside walls are combustible and could be ignited by the heat of your stove if they’re too close.

Any wood stove installation must adequately protect combustible material from the heat that is generated by the stove. Sometimes you’ll see materials near your stove discolouring or charring – in which case you know they need to be protected from the heat. But, for example, pyrolysis can occur on the inside of a wall, catching fire from the inside without warning. As this process, pyrolysis, continues over time it can cause the autoignition temperature of the material to drop. However, if any of these options are impossible or undesirable, you could opt for a heat shield instead! How does a heat shield work?

Once the first couple of screws are in, line up the second piece of metal, and, through the predrilled holes, screw them together with sheet metal screws. (You shouldn't put mounting hardware spacers directly behind the stove because they would conduct heat to the combustible walls.)We are sitting enjoying a fire now and absolutely loving it! Thanks for creating such an amazing product."
