About this deal

It took me a little while to get into this story, but once the expedition began I really warmed to it. It is non-stop action and adventure and is simply teeming with imagination. The main section of the novel reminded me very much of the Indiana Jones films, with lots of fantasy creatures popping up unexpectedly, collapsing bridges, subterranean caves and tunnels and a myriad mythological beasts and creatures.

Stella is such an upbeat protagonist, who loves the thrill of the chase and the feel of icy wind in her hair. She was found in this environment as a baby, and while on her adventure she uncovers a lot more about her past, as well as developing new relationships along the way. I liked all of her interactions with her fellow crew members, especially Beanie, who is so incredibly kind and loving but is often cast over by other people. Stella regularly speaks up for him, calling out anyone who speaks negatively about Beanie's behaviours and supposed eccentricities. She knows how wonderful Beanie is, and she just wants everyone else to see it too. Stella Starflake Pearl is desperate to be a famous explorer like her father, Felix. Just as Stella’s awful Aunt Agatha is about to whisk her off to a finishing school for young ladies, Felix decides that Stella MUST join him on his next expedition. Yay! This amazing series written by Alex Bell and illustrated by Tomislav Tomic will of course capture readers who love Harry Potter, Nevermoor, The Land of Roar and other magical realism stories.Felix had always said that some rules were okay to break and, in fact, some should be broken regularly for one’s health. When Aunt Agatha said that Stella needed a woman in the house to bring her up properly, Felix was always on Stella’s side about stuff like being allowed to gallop around the grounds on her unicorn, or build a fort out of books in the library, or learn how to make balloon animals rather than sew ugly embroidery. Fancy getting your hands on a copy? Well good news gang, because you can win one in our brilliant competition. Stella’s adoptive father, Felix, is a member of The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club, and Stella has always wanted to be an explorer as well. Technically girls aren’t allowed to join The Club, but when the chance arises to join Felix, Stella is determined to prove she can be as good an explorer as anyone. Now she happily dwells in an entirely make-believe world of blood, death, madness, murder and mayhem. The doctors have advised that it is best not to disturb her, for she appears to be happy there.

The injustice of it made her whole body tremble. Stella had grown up listening to Felix’s stories whenever he returned home from an expedition, and had always loved them, but there comes a time when a girl gets tired of hearing about other people’s adventures and wants to start having a few of her own. Molly: A wonderful frosty adventure with humour and so much heart! Ethan is a funny and cheeky character who made my eyes water with laughter. Stella is determined to prove that there's more to exploring and that it is not just for boys. I would recommend this book to other schools or even adults. Izaak: The Polar Bear Explorers Club is a fantastic book to read: it is intriguing and funny. It's full of cliff-hangers and it wants you to read on! If you like expeditions, this book is for you! It’s not fair that girls can’t be explorers!” Stella said. “It’s stupid and it doesn’t make sense!”Aidan: This book was amazing! It has a special vibe of magic and wonder with just the right amount of cliff-hangers! The book was read to my class by my teacher and we loved it. The main characters are Stella, Beanie, Ethan and Shay who are split from their colleagues in an exploration team! I recommend this book to anyone who has a sense of adventure, magic and a love of stories! Wayne: The Polar Bear Explorers' Club is wonderful and full of exciting journeys, yetis, unicorns and fairies - but are they nice? As well as battling grumpy trolls, they become split up from the other explorers. Will Stella, Shay, Beanie and Ethan be reunited with their group?

Lacey-May: Alex Bell is a very intriguing author. The book includes the characters Stella Starflake Pearl, Shay, Ethan and Beanie. As well as this book, I also loved 'The Boy in the Tower' and 'Letters from the Lighthouse'

Get ready to travel to the iciest of mountains and to set sail across faraway seas with this fun, adventurous and absolutely spellbinding series about great feats, each book reading as a standalone story with its own set of unique and courageous characters. Stella wasn’t at all sure about that. Felix had always introduced Stella to people as his daughter, and she knew he loved her as much as any father ever could, even if she was just another orphaned foundling he’d discovered in the snow. But Aunt Agatha had always looked at her with the same kind of mild distaste with which she looked at Gruff after he’d just done one of his long, loud, fish-biscuit burps.
