About this deal

Including both production stills and the 40 finished images, all in full color, it also features an essay by Rick Moody, a novelist equally renowned for exposing the underbelly of small-town, middle-class America. Picasso’s sizable oeuvre grew to include over 20,000 paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, theater sets, and costume designs. He blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality, thanks to the artist’s incredibly detailed preparation of elaborate sets, lighting and cast.

Crewdson's most recent series of photographs, Twilight, are created as elaborately constructed film stills, catching the mysterious moment of time between before and after, revealing unknowable or unimaginable aspects of domestic reality. With Twilight, a series of 40 elaborately-staged photographs taken between 1998 and 2002, Gregory Crewdson arrived at the epic, filmic approach which has come to define his instantly recognisable imag. Created as elaborately staged tableaux, this series of images suggests the bizarre yet beautiful surrealities behind deceptively familiar suburban facades. I like the way that something as simple as a ray of light can change a landscape from ordinary to mysterious or uncanny.Crewdson stages these photographs, constructing fragmented narratives evoking fantasy, magic and the supernatural, pulling from cinematic techniques and film genre to infuse his pictures with both familiarity and mystery. Three Gregory Crewdson print editions will be available individually or as a triptych for 24 hours on Thursday 16 November.

Twilight and many other works by Gregory Crewdson highlight the mystery and beauty that exists in everyday life. What came before and is coming after so, in effect, the purpose of showing the transition of before and after has, for me, been achieved. In this merging, Crewdson has established a photographic sensibility that takes its place within the mythological landscape of the American imagination. The vast crew included everything from aerial engineers and pyrotechnicians to bug wranglers, a taxidermist and the local fire department. Gregory Crewdson - Twilight series, by Superfuzz bigmuff on Jan 27, 2024 18:55:31 GMT 1, Recently got this one back from framer - wish I’d had the funds (and wall space) for the full set but very happy to have this one.

Having turned through the pages, I too was impressed with this photographer's surreal use of HDR and color rendering, turning seemingly ordinary slice of life scenes into beautiful works of art. In other images, subjects are engrossed in odd, domestic chores such as carving holes in the living room floor or uprooting a huge tree from the rafters of an otherwise standard bedroom. These enigmatic photographs capture the mysterious moment of time between before and after, revealing unknowable or unimaginable aspects of domestic reality - superimposing a space of surreality opening onto a scene of dream strategies. I have created a kind of iconography for myself, but I'm not sure how it all adds up - and maybe I don't want to know. It consists of forty photographs that explore the domestic landscape and its relationship to an artificially heightened natural world—a collision between the normal and the paranormal.

Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. His photographs depict scenes of anxiety and dislocation: his subjects often appear preoccupied or caught in transition, and are always photographed at twilight, in the gloaming where artists often find inspiration. These color photographs are early examples of Crewdson's investigation into the suburban surreal and illustrate the origins of his pictoral sensibility. Crewdson may not be viewed as a photographer in the traditional sense and not be to everyone's taste but that's the beauty of photography, it moves around, changes and evolves and, as I have read many times now, does not necessarily mean one lone person travelling the country and globe to capture the shot.

I’m revisiting this picture on the 25th Anniversary of Twilight because, as my first street scene of this kind, it has become very important in my iconography and visual language. As the light fades, there are often problems - with neighbours, the weather, unexpected interruptions. I could stare at his photographs for hours and make up story after story—and that’s where the difference with those other genres lies. These themes were first addressed in his color series Natural Wonder (1991-1995) and his black and white landscape photographs hover (1995-1997).

Each of these three pictures feature themes and motifs and iconography that I still use as central elements in my pictures. But something starts to make you feel uneasy, it's un-nerving and you find you have to look for longer, taking in all the surreal dreamlike and, often, haunting visions. Me renseignant toujours énormément avant tout achat, je suis rarement déçu par ce que j’achète mais cette fois, je l’etais malheureusement. He is a 1988 graduate of the Yale School of Art, where he is currently the director of its graduate studies in photography. Teaching, he says, is ideal for an artist because he gets to learn what the next generation are doing, what they're reading, what they're listening to, and to talk about form and composition.Gregory Crewdson - Twilight series, by robo on Nov 17, 2023 23:46:30 GMT 1, 20 lucky winners - what’s that? Still, at a certain time, toward nightfall on certain days of the year, Crewdson is obliged to make pictures. One of the most striking images for me is Plate 6, that of a woman dressed in her nightie and underwear, kneeling in her kitchen/dining room on a bed of flowers. J’ai l’impression que l’artiste a retenu la leçon à la vue de la magnifique édition de son œuvre « Beneath the roses », c’est bien dommage pour celle-ci en tout cas.
